BURRELL TWP.
VFD

When Burrell Township Volunteer Fire Department searched for
a truck to haul water, we built this "TANKER 1" Series
tanker to fit the applications they required. Being able to maneuver easily, hauling an sufficient supply of water, and able to make long
winding hills
in a hurry were just a few requirements that had to be met. This Sterling
Acterra heavy duty chassis with 14,000 lb. front axles and 23,000 lb. rear
axle holding up the back. Powered by a Cummins 330 HP ISC diesel engine
and backed by a Allison MD-3060 6-speed automatic transmission it pull 2000
gallons of water encased in a stainless steel elliptical tank like it didn't
even know it was back there.

Located between the chassis cab and the bulkhead of the tank
is a 200 GPM W.S. Darley transfer pump to move the water from one truck
to another. On top of the pump house is an aluminum hose tray capable of holding
up to 300 ft. of 2.5" hose.

Burrell's "Tanker 1" features roll-up
compartment doors on each side of the truck for easy access to tools and
equipment in emergency situations. The body was cleaned and lined with 4"
White Scotchlite striping for more visibility in the evening as well as at
night. Underbody steps lights activate with a simple pull of the parking brake
knob allowing for safe exit upon arrival on scene.
